Social events History
Originally with most members either living in or close to the Village of Eynsham, social events and activities involving members and their wives and partners soon became a regular feature of the Lodge. This social side continues to this day although neither the membership nor the social activities are confined to the Village and its immediate surrounding area.
Amongst other functions such as skittles nights and barbecues, the Ladies Festival quickly became an annual feature and until its closure, took place at the Oxford Masonic Centre for many years. Since then, the Festival has been held at various local venues and in the past few years at Kirtlington Golf Club where we have been made to feel very welcome. Each year we also hold a most enjoyable and successful Burns Night at Woodstock Masonic Hall with a piper playing in the haggis and a wee dram or two to accompany proceedings. Our Carols Night is held on a Friday night at the beginning of December each year and has proved to be a very enjoyable evening with every one joining in the singing following a splendid Christmas meal served up by our resident chef Lorraine and her happy team of helpers. Bearing in mind that Aelfric is a “Summer Lodge”, meeting in the months from April to September each year, except for August (with a one-off Lodge of Instruction Festival meeting in November), these social events help keep members and their wives in touch with one another throughout the rest of the year and we owe a huge debt of gratitude to our hard working Social Secretary and his wife (and to their predecessors) for the effort required in organising and making these events such a success.
